Butyl Rubber is a very good general purpose rubber used for many applications and is a high strength rubber material, known for its excellent resistance to oils and high vapor chemicals. The most unique characteristic of Butyl rubber is that its permeability to air is 70% better than that of most other rubber materials and for this reason the industry uses it for tire tubes and tubeless tire inner liners. Butyl rubber rolls are used where a formed gasket may be needed.
Butyl rubber rolls can also be used for piecing together a formidable gasket to prevent fluids from leaking and in many gasket applications in the industrial arena to include pipe saddles, flange gaskets and piping supports / pipe padding. Butyl Rubber resists heat aging, is resistance to UV Rays and chemical erosion. Butyl Rubber has a high resistance to abrasion and carries above average tear resistance making it common to use in marine environments and electrical applications.
